FiF makes its voice heard

In times of forced non-visibility as a result of the Corona pandemic, FiF has followed new, creative directions – from visibility to audibility. The series of interviews with speakers from the Academic Quarter, launched in the winter semester 2020/21, came to a conclusion in the winter semester 2022/23. The fifteen podcasts produced from 2020 to 2022 therefore represent the exceptional period of the pandemic. It is planned to continue the FiF podcast in a loose order and topic-related. The podcast produced in January 2023 with Ariel Auslender, Ulrich Knaack and Samuel Schabel on the topic of "Building with Paper" will be the first.

Winter Semester 2022/23

BAMP! Building with paper

A FiF research project with sustainable consequences.

Ariel Auslender, Ulrich Knaack and Samuel Schabel in conversation with Andreas Großmann: the new FiF Podcast.

is it possible to build houses out of paper? And how? And in the most sustainable way possible? A FiF research project under the leadership of Professors Ariel Auslender (Architecture), Markus Biesalski (Chemistry) and Samuel Schabel (Mechanical Engineering) had done research on this topic within the framework of the interdisciplinary research funding initiative under the title "Bi-compatible paper materials – functional, fully bio-compatible paper materials for aesthetic solutions in architecture“ 2012-2015 and in doing so laid the foundation for new interdisciplinary collaborations at TU Darmstadt and also beyond Darmstadt..

This FiF project became a large-scale research project within the LOEWE initiative of the state of Hesse in the following years. „BAMP! Building with paper“.

In this conversation with the FiF Podcast, Ariel Auslender, Ulrich Knaack and Samuel Schabel give insights behind the scenes and reflect about the difficulties on their way to success. They also provide an outlook on the dynamics that will carry this topic into the future.
