The public lecture on the topic “Responsive Creativity” took place on 23 May 2018 in the Wilhelm-Köhler-Saal. Until his retirement in 1999 Bernhard Waldenfels was professor for philosophy at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. He is considered one of the most significant German-speaking phenomenologists, having developed phenomenology—in the tradition of thinkers such as Husserl, Heidegger, and Merleau-Ponty—through ongoing dialogue with other disciplines. He has received numerous honors for his work, including honorary doctorates from the universities of Freiburg and Rostock (2012) and the University of Cagliari (2024), as well as the Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize from the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Tübingen (2021).
