From 1989 to 2001 Günter Figal was Professor for Philosophy at the University of Tübingen. In 2001 he followed a call to the University of Freiburg (Br.). Until his retirement in autumn 2017 he held the chair of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. His works repeatedly address—from a phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective—questions concerning art (e.g., “Things as They Appear. Aesthetics as Phenomenology”, Tübingen 2010; “Art. Philosophical Treatises”, Tübingen 2012; “Spontaneity: Essays on Art and Life”, Freiburg 2016) and architecture (e.g., “Ando – Space, Architecture, Modernism”, Freiburg 2017; “Aesthetics of Architecture”, Freiburg 2021).
