The Challenge:

Codes and me. AI technologies from an educational perspective

From the lecture:

Most people have an idea of what education could be. In everyday life, it is understood as the question of who we are and who we will be. School education often comes to mind first. Education focuses on a specific educational ideal. As an academic discipline, education is theoretically and reflexively oriented and conducts empirical research on educational contexts. It also discusses the question of what should be or is focused on as the educational ideal. A person's lifestyle has a significant influence on how they perceive themselves and their environment. Since digital infrastructures now shape almost all areas of life, it has become a relevant field of research in education. The question then is how we develop in the context of digitality.

Digitalisation is primarily understood as the technological expansion of digital infrastructures. Digitality, on the other hand, describes a ‘being’ and not a ‘becoming’. Even the use of analogue media, such as books, is shaped by digitality. Digitality has permeated our lives to such an extent that existing structures need to be reconfigured.

Perspectives

It is not enough to view AI technologies merely as tools. Parallel to the development of AI technologies, an interdisciplinary field is emerging that encompasses technical, ethical and social dimensions. Educational questions focus on what learning and education are, what contribution AI technology makes to them and, ultimately, what influence the further expansion of AI technologies can have on how we understand and see ourselves and how communities live and function together.
