“Challenges for the paper cycle”, lecture on 25.05.2022
From the discussion:
Paper is an interesting and important resource because it consists of bio-based material, can be used in many ways and has high strength. Made on a recycled basis for centuries, techniques for making paper from wood have been available only since the 19th century. Today, recycled paper is an essential resource for paper production – in Germany the recycling rate is over 80%, worldwide over 60%. However, one problem is that there are more and more unwanted substances in the recycling cycle, such as adhesives, inorganic materials and filling materials such as bubble wrap. These are challenges for recycling for which an understanding of the problem must be raised – a “design for recycling” has to be embedded in the thinking, in paper production, but also in the entire supply chain.
