AI-generated disinformation and propaganda have been posing major, serious challenges and threats to democratic societies for some time now. But what exactly is disinformation and misinformation? How do they ‘work’? And how can they be recognised?

The topic is relevant far beyond the field of computer science. The FiF Forum, scheduled for 28 October 2026, offers an opportunity for the necessary interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange. Cognitive psychologist Stephan Lewandowsky from the University of Bristol (UK), an internationally renowned expert on disinformation, has been invited to give a lecture. His topic: ‘Disinformation, Misinformation, and the Fate of Democracy’. The lecture and discussion will be accompanied by a panel discussion moderated by Darmstadt-based AI researcher Iryna Gurevych.

The lecture and discussion will be in English. However, questions may be asked in German.
