The Academic Quarter with Markus Biesalski on November 20

“What are there innovative ways of using the material paper?”

2024/11/20 13:15-14:00 by

When: 20th November 2024, 1:00 PM c.t. (academic quarter) | Who: Markus Biesalski (Macromolecular Chemistry and Paper Chemistry) | Where: Schloss S3|12, Room 251, 2nd Floor

On the subject:

For thousands of years, paper has been known for its unique characteristics: bendable and foldable, high mechanical strength and a pore structure that enables pump-free transport of liquids.

Nowadays, its production and recycling can be regarded as technologically optimised. It has an environmentally friendly image and supports the public's growing demand for sustainable and circular material solutions.

Beyond its classic applications as printing, packaging and sanitary paper, it has been the focus of attention in very demanding areas for some years now, e.g. rapid medical tests, waterproof lightweight construction materials and, more recently, paper-based soft robotics. The lecture will discuss examples of such fields of application.
