Trust in times of artificial intelligence – trust in artificial intelligence?

Without trust, we cannot live. But where is trust based? And does it make sense to also talk about trust in technology?

Without trust, we cannot live. But how is trust based? Does it not in itself imply a renunciation of control? We trust another person because we consider him or her to be trustworthy. The question arises whether and to what extent the talk about trust also makes sense with regard to technology in general and artificial intelligence in particular. The latter also involves – and by no means ephemerally – experiences of delusion and disinformation.

‘However, “blind” trust does not seem appropriate here. Isn't there a need for (political and legal) regulation and control where the potential for deception, manipulation and disinformation through artificial intelligence becomes visible on a daily basis?

Andreas Großmann discusses these and other questions with Andreas Kaminski. Andreas Kaminski is Professor of Philosophy of Science and Technology at TU Darmstadt. In addition to the question of the role of technology in the sciences, his main research interests include the philosophy of trust.
